James Riley
My background is in mechanical engineering and design, which I studied at Aston University. I specialised in the automotive field, and completed a year in industry working for a major car manufacturer as part of my undergraduate course.
In my final undergraduate year, I worked on a team designing and building a Formula Student racing car, which gave me first-hand experience of design and manufacture in a variety of areas; perhaps most notably in composites manufacture. I went on to co-manage the following season’s team alongside my postgraduate studies.
I joined Forresters in 2010, and since then I have been involved with filing and prosecuting patents, and advising clients on infringement matters. I have worked with a broad range of technology, ranging from agricultural devices to racing engines, and enjoy learning about the unique problems that exist in each field, and how our clients’ products solve them.
In my spare time, I enjoy cycling, real ales, and motorsport, and I have promised myself a trip to the Nürburgring in the near future!
