James Carstairs Retires

31st October 2008 marked the end of an era at Forresters with the retirement of James Carstairs. Jamie (as he was known to all) was one of our longest serving patent attorney fee earners, having joined Forresters in 1965. He initially worked in the Birmingham office for three years before transferring to London in 1968.

A quiet and industrious character, Jamie was a patent attorney with a wide range of technical expertise, but was best known for his mechanical patent drafting and presentation skills. He was expert at being able to grasp the fundamentals of an invention quickly and dealt admirably with those clients who provide the minimum of information just before they were about to disclose details of their invention.

Jamie also involved himself in the training of junior attorneys within the firm and many are grateful to him for the lessons which he passed on.

Jamie’s retirement was marked with a surprise (for him) leaving party where he was presented with gifts from his colleagues.

Jamie has vowed that in retirement he will be adopting an active lifestyle, with mention having been made of cycling (as opposed to motor biking, with which we have always associated Jamie). He would also like to become involved in volunteer work as a nature warden. He has recently become a grandfather, which will no doubt assist in keeping him out of mischief!

We at Forresters are all most grateful for Jamie’s long and dedicated service to the firm. We sincerely thank him for his past endeavours, and wish him well in retirement.
