The Next EPO President – Update

Further to our update on 11 December 2009, the EPO have yet to elect a successful candidate to replace Alison Brimelow as the president of the European Patent Office.

Elections initially took place in October 2009 but failed to determine Alison’s successor. Elections were held again in December 2009 and were also unsuccessful.

The winning candidate must receive three-quarters of the vote.

The elections were held yet again during an exceptional EPO Administrative Council meeting on on 2–3 February 2010. Yet again the Council was unable to agree on one of the candidates.

The Council will meet yet again at the beginning of March to try to resolve the issue, and we shall keep you informed of further developments.
