June 2010
For twelve days in October 2010, New Delhi will host the 19th Commonwealth Games, welcoming elite athletes from around the world to India, for the first time.
Across a range of sports and para-sports, from aquatics to wrestling, the Games will showcase competition from 71 different nations, in what has become the third-largest, and one of the highest-profile, multi-sport events in the world.
As a firm with British origins, but with friends, clients and associates around the globe, Forresters are delighted to be supporting the England team, as they prepare for the challenges ahead. As an ‘Official Friend’ of the team, and having helped the organising body (Commonwealth Games England) with some aspects of their trade mark protection and legal issues, we are both proud backers of the English athletes and strong supporters of India, as she continues her impressive rise to further prominence on the world's stage.
Commenting on our involvement, Matthew Shaw – a partner in our Birmingham office – said “I am so pleased that we have had an opportunity to support the team in this way, and to get involved with such an interesting and exciting group of people. The Commonwealth Games is a great event in its own right, but with the London 2012 Olympics coming so soon after Delhi, it’s a fantastic chance for the England team to show the world what they can do, and to prepare for perhaps even greater success with Team GB at their home Olympics. Whilst we mustn't forget our British neighbours in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, whose teams we also wish well, England have always been key players at these Games and we’re delighted to support them.
Having been to India a few times myself, where we have many good friends and associates, I am really pleased that we can support New Delhi, too, as the capital city hosts what we are sure will be a fantastic event, in such an amazing country. ”
