Forresters’ attorney speaks at EU nanophotonics event

On 8 to 13 November 2011, an EU-funded Network of Excellence event took place at the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice, Sicily, on the subject of “Nanophotonics for Energy Efficiency”. The foundation is a centre for scientific culture and the promotion of scientific excellence, and hosts many prestigious scientific gatherings.

Participants in the event came from academic institutions throughout Europe, and speakers included respected academics from universities in Sweden, France, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Greece and Belgium.

On the final day, Alex Beattie of Forresters, and Elizabeth Cooper-Rolfe of Opoly IP, gave a presentation on intellectual property (IP). EU-funded research often generates patentable inventions, and the EU scientific institutions place a high value on IP. The session provided a broad introduction to the major forms of IP and how they are of particular importance to nanophotonics, and EU-funded research in general.
