Matt Barton
UK Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney
I obtained a BSc and PhD in chemistry from the University of Birmingham before joining Forresters in 2001. I specialise in prosecuting patent applications in Europe, the UK and in many other countries around the world, with particular experience of patent prosecution at the European Patent Office, including oral proceedings. I also have a strong interest in preparing patentability reports and freedom to operate opinions for clients and I have tutored trainee attorneys for the UK infringement and validity examination.
Being qualified in chemistry, I handle a broad range of subject matter, with particular emphasis on pharmaceutical chemistry and industrial products. However I also have expertise in foodstuffs, medical devices, alloys, metallurgy, spectrometry and personal care products. I am also experienced in handling a wide variety of mechanical subject matter. I am a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry
In my free time I enjoy keeping fit either in the gym or out running somewhere, and I have recently started cycling to work. I like to travel and I try to visit a new country each year; I also enjoy cooking, especially for friends.
