I am a highly experienced European and UK patent attorney. Having prosecuted over 1000 EP applications, I have an excellent feel for how to achieve efficient procedure at the EPO. I have safely taken many complex cases through the EPO’s oral proceedings process to secure commercially useful protection on important licence sensitive cases.

I enjoy working with a wide range of clients of different sizes, including many universities in the UK and Ireland, and also many SMEs. Many of my clients seek protection worldwide, especially in North America and China and I have good links to those jurisdictions, including knowledge of how practice differs in key areas.

Due to this experience, I am able to provide succinct, commercially focussed advice tailored to individual needs. I particularly enjoy seeking creative solutions for clients’ IP problems, including helping achieve resolution in disputes and creating IP protection strategies for solving specific business needs.

I have extensive experience in analysing (including large due diligence projects), advising on, drafting, and prosecuting patents in many fields – for example, software/hardware/GUIs/network infrastructure for mobile devices, optical networks, medical devices, image processing, x-ray scanners, other advanced physics and materials science. Having studied physics at university, I particularly enjoy learning about new research and technology in physics/advanced physics.

I also have plenty of experience in, and enjoy working on designs matters (European, UK and worldwide) – filing, prosecution and opinion work.

I joined Forresters as a partner in early 2018, after 18 years in the profession. In 2005 and 2006, I spent some of my time seconded to an in-house department of a multinational telecoms corporation.
