Charlotte Sunderland

Partner

Charlotte joined Forresters in 2010. She is passionate about promoting Diversity and Inclusion within the Intellectual Property community and was instrumental in the founding of Forresters’ Equality and Diversity working group.

She enjoys contentious work and has handled a large number of oppositions at the EPO, often involving multiple parties and high-value cases. Charlotte applies this knowledge of post-grant proceedings to her wide European and UK prosecution practice to help her clients build robust and commercially relevant patent portfolios. She also carries out original drafting work.

Charlotte patents a diverse range of technology but has particular expertise in patenting medical devices and bioinformatics. She also has extensive experience working with the food and beverage industry patenting new ingredients and processes.

Charlotte graduated from Cambridge University with a MA(Hons) in Natural Sciences, specialising in genetics and evolutionary biology. Whilst at university, she worked for a small pharma start-up company, where she was involved in developing recombinant antibodies to target the “superbug” MRSA.

Her clients range from large multinational companies through to start-ups, individuals, and foreign patent firms (particularly those based in the US). Many of her clients have said they enjoy working with her as she gives friendly and practical advice.

In her spare time, Charlotte loves to immerse herself in interior design and DIY projects or cooking with her toddler.
