Chris mainly works on the drafting and prosecution of patents in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields. He also has experience in preparing freedom to operate and due diligence opinions and representing clients in opposition and appeal hearings before the EPO.
He graduated from the University of Oxford (New College) with a first-class Master’s degree in Chemistry in 2005 and has been with Forresters since then.
Chris is a non-executive director of PAMIA, the mutual insurance company through which the great majority of UK and Irish patent and trade mark attorneys in private practice obtain their professional indemnity insurance. This role gives him good insight into best practices for firms such as ours.
Some of Chris’ key successes include:
- Obtaining European patents for new pharmaceuticals
- Advising on divisional and SPC strategy
- Drafting patent applications in the field of carbon capture
- Successfully defending oppositions in the field of inkjet printing
- Obtaining patents in the clean tech space, when faced with difficult objections
- Providing due diligence advice to companies considering acquisitions
The technical fields he works in are diverse, ranging from small molecules to battery technology, from lubricant additives to carbon capture solvents, and from medical device coatings to inks.
He works with several corporate clients and strives to always give them timely and business-focussed advice. Having advised corporate clients looking to acquire SMEs, he has seen both sides and is experienced in presenting IP owned by SMEs when they are looking for investment.
Chris plays guitar and enjoys listening to all types of live music. He also enjoys running, having recently completed the London Marathon.
