Thomas has extensive experience in the life sciences IP field and spent the first thirteen years of his career in two Munich-based patent law firms. In the three years before joining Forresters, he was the head of IP of a publicly listed clinical-stage biotech company based in Boston and the greater Munich metropolitan area.
Thomas’ main practice areas are patent drafting, patent prosecution, and opposition proceedings before the EPO. He also has substantial experience in opinion work and IP due diligence as well as in matters relating to the German employee inventions act.
Thomas’ technical background is biochemistry, and he is particularly experienced in prosecuting, defending and attacking patents relating to biologics, such as protein, peptide, or mRNA therapeutics, and personalised medicine.
Thomas holds a Master’s degree and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Bochum and carried out the research for both his Master’s thesis and PhD thesis at Rockefeller University in New York City, followed by a postdoc at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He has experience serving clients ranging from biotech start-ups and universities to multinational pharma and biotech companies.
In his spare time, Thomas enjoys cycling, tennis, gardening, cooking, and travelling with his family.
